    This is really a 45 star book and it would get five stars if the subject matter wasn't so bleak The novel is dark beautiful violent imaginative and moving and I was hooked from start to finish Rupert Thomson manages to combine wonderful writing with a plot that keeps the reader turning the page – no mean achievement in itself – and his descriptive passages are so good and so inventive that the book is well worth
