She was a means to an endhe wasn’t supposed to ever love herHe lived an idyllic lifeOne day Flynn Earl of Luxmoore was a wealthy carefree lord courting the woman he intended to wed And the next day he’s stripped of all but his title and left with no means to care for his loved ones When the person responsible for his ruination offers him a solution marriage to an unwilling and resentful American beauty he has no choice but to accept Not if he wants to care for his ailing mother elderly grandmother and disabled sister Fate dealt her a cruel hand Angelina Ellsworth unwittingly committed bigamy and when she finds herself pregnant she’ll do anything to The first novel of Collette Cameron I have tried and I was disappointed There are dozens of 45 star reviews waxing lyrical so why didn t I feel the same I was attracted by the unusual premise sweet girl swept off her feet by a handsome dashing French man Within hours of her wedding Angelina Ellsworth discovers that her handsome hubby is nothing but a lying cheating bigamist but even worse she is informed that he is also a slave trader the scum of the earth Angelina travels to England to stay with her Aunt and Uncle the Duke and Duchess of Waterford to lick her wounds lay low for a while and eventually return home to America to her Mother and sisters with a concocted story of her tragic widowhood However in the course of her brief marriage to Pierre Renault alias Charles Moreau in one brief painful encounter he has managed to impregnate her her disillusionment is complete she is a desperate young woman pregnant unmarried and ruinedFlynn Earl of Luxmoore is just about to propose marriage to a beautiful young Scotswoman when he is cruelly thwarted at the eleventh hour by the news that his Father has been ruined in a card game by the Duke of Waterford unable to bear the shame with a sick wife and disabled child to care for the Maruess blows his brains out Flynn is now completely responsible for not only his Father popular in the UK in the late 1800 s this novel is set in 1818 Also probably a typo but irritating nevertheless amendable instead of I would think amenable Flynn and Angelina are sweet good and honourable characters and theirs is a love story worth telling and the original idea was good but I feel Collette Cameron tried to pack too much in and ends up overwhelming the reader this reader anyway I am definitely in the minority in my criticism of this novel so perhaps it is simply that I do not appreciate the writing style of this author The premise generally good writing and lovely characters should have earned this novel 3 stars but in the end only 25 because of my criticisms only mine though as I said Ms Cameron has many admirers as is evident in the grading of other reviewers
